At READY, SET, SOUND our mission is to craft unforgettable musical experiences that bring communities together, celebrate diversity, and champion inclusivity. Driven by a deep passion for music and a commitment to accessibility, we create safe and welcoming spaces where everyone can connect through the magic of live performances. We are dedicated to uplifting local artists, fostering artistic expression, and making a meaningful impact on the vibrant musical landscape of Victoria, BC, the unceded lands of the Lekwungen peoples.
A special collaboration between Olivia Jackson (Actual Human People) and Savannah Read (Millet), bringing together the front-women of 2 beloved Victoria bands for a mesmerizing and angelic opening set. Their performance opened this momentous evening, marking the final chapter of the VEC venue.
Sofia Miller brings songs from her debut studio album "Prologue" to life in this intimate performance at the Victoria Event Centre's final band show. This set showcases her signature blend of alternative folk and shoegaze, featuring her distinct guitar work and airy falsetto vocals. Miller's performance marks a significant moment in local music history as the last ever full band bill at the beloved VEC.
Charis Tazumi’s set captures her talent as an indie folk singer-songwriter with ethereal melodies and compelling lyricism, as part of a memorable night celebrating the VEC's legacy in Victoria's music community. The event marked the final full band bill at the VEC before its closure.
Victoria's four-piece band Sweet Delirium (Irene Paule, Tev Uslu, Liam St. John, and Greg Bertado) delivers a captivating blend of dream pop, shoegaze, and R&B at the Victoria Event Centre's final band show. Their performance features soulful vocals backed by melancholy instrumentation, including stirring memorial for the beloved venue with audience remember a coming up to share their favourite memories of the space set to the bands accompaniment.
"My experience working with Megan (READY, SET, SOUND!) was an absolute highlight of this year! In celebration of the Victoria Event Centre, they organized and put on an incredible and thoughtful farewell show to our most beloved local venue. I was lucky enough to take part in the event as a musical act. I witnessed the amazing behind the scenes work that Megan did, in partnership with show organizer Koko (Hot Local Singles). Working with them was an awesome experience, and despite all the moving parts and undoubted pressure of putting on a show, Megan was always communicative, warm and kind! Above all, I was so encouraged and grateful to be a part of a bill that highlighted women, queer and BIPOC artists. I would recommend that folks work with Megan if they get the opportunity!" "I am a band member of Luna Land, and we are so fortunate to have had READY, SET, SOUND, begin in the same year as our band in 2024, and then to have Megan invite us to do a handful of READY, SET, SOUND shows. It's been the highlight of our year, every time that we play a show with READY, SET, SOUND. The reason for that is we are an all-fem, all-queer dream pop band, and we didn't know what that would land like in the Victoria music scene, especially because predominantly the population on stages is a lot of like cis[gender] white dudes, and we just didn't know how that would land. And when we debuted, and then when we did our shows with Megan, it's been nothing but a very inclusive, welcoming environment. Megan really shows up in their dedication to their work as a producer. They're very organized, very timely. We feel very like taken care of when we just arrive for soundcheck! And when we have new songs, Megan listens to them and gets as excited as we are about it, and they're so intentional.
We really hope we can continue working with them this year, upcoming year in 2025. And we're really looking forward to all that READY, SET, SOUND is going to create. It's the most diverse in genre, and inclusive, thoughtful, and centres around consent and safety, more than any other producer or show promoter I've worked with Luna Land. I think this is really needed for bands. I think that we need producers who understand the level of safety that's needed in order to have a really fun time and that's the nice thing is because these safety protocols of like having a harm reduction person on the team or making sure everyone's checked in on and understanding the dynamics of each band and introducing people to each other because because Megan takes on that labour as a producer.
The shows are so fun for the audience and the performers alike. Megan also takes videos and photos so we get assets for like grants and for applying to festivals and that's such an asset for musicians as well. Yes, those are all my praise-worthy things I want to say about READY, SET, SOUND and Megan." (Dec. 2024)
