Megan Harton (they/them) is a composer, audio engineer, sound and intermedia artist originally from Toronto (Tkaronto), the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe, Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and Mississaugas of the Credit first nation. They are currently based on the unceded lands of the Lək̓ʷəŋən (Songhees and Xʷsepsəm/Esquimalt) and W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples, colonially known as Victoria, British Columbia.
Megan’s work explores the intersections of sound, technology, memory, and activism. Grounded in authenticity and intuition, their practice reflects personal experiences while offering social commentary through immersive intermedia art and sonic experimentation. They recently completed a Master of Music Technology with distinction at the University of Victoria and hold an Honours Bachelor of Music in Composition from Wilfrid Laurier University. Their creative portfolio ranges from multimedia installations to concert works and has been featured on international stages and screens.
Megan is the winner of the 2022 Digital Sound Art Competition at the Open Ears Festival of Music and Sound and has completed artist residencies with Continuum Contemporary Music’s HATCH Program, the Jeffrey Rubinoff Sculpture Park, and Ocean Networks Canada.
Their work has been presented at international conferences including the American Geophysical Union, Timbre and Orchestration Summer School, and the Society of Music Production Research. When not creating, Megan can often be found listening to podcasts, playing video games, and enjoying more coffee than they'd like to admit.
