mt. logan are an ambient free improvisation duo based on Lekwungen lands. Named after Canada’s tallest peak, bringing together the creative forces of composer, sound artist Megan Harton and music technologist Isaiah Doyle. Both hailing from diverse backgrounds as multi-instrumentalists and audio engineers, they formed a bond at Neuztec8, which inspired the inception of this project.
Megan Harton, a Toronto-born composer, delves into the intricate interplay between memory, place, and people. Currently pursuing a Master of Music Technology at the University of Victoria, Megan holds an Honors Bachelor of Music in Composition from Wilfrid Laurier University.
Isaiah Doyle, on the other hand, is immersed in the intersection of sound and computers with a passion for the development of accessible creative tools. Isaiah is working toward completing the undergraduate Music and Computer Science program at the University of Victoria.
mt. logan have performed across Victoria at venues like Quadratic Sound, University of Victoria, and Neuztec Festival. Their work ranges from ambient synth works dedicated to astronaut animals, to performance art instructional text scores about building bird houses amplified by contact microphones. mt. logan are a promising unique blend of ambient sounds crafted by this emerging electroacoustic duo.
TRUE PEAKS hosted by mt. logan (aka Megan and Isaiah), explores the wild frontiers of experimental sound. Each episode deconstructs a unique sonic universe – from the tape pioneers of musique concrète to local noise artists, from field recording soundscapes to hyperpop glitch beats – offering listeners a journey through the most transformative sounds of our time. In audio, ‘true peaks’ represent the highest points of sound waves.
Metaphorically, it’s about amplifying voices that have been historically excluded from computer music education. Our duo, mt. logan, blends ambient synthesized instruments, found sounds and field recordings through improvisation. This curiosity drives our show, where we’ll discuss underrepresented voices in music technology, creative uses of sound, and cutting-edge research.
Through TRUE PEAKS, we aim to inspire curiosity about sound, showcase trailblazers in the field, and connect with local and global experimental music scenes. Part audio documentary, part musical exploration we hope to encourage and educate listeners to hear the world differently, featuring interviews, recordings, and carefully curated examples. Tune in monthly on the first Monday at 9pm on CFUV 101.9 FM for a passport to uncharted sonic territories that push the boundaries of what music can be.
